Telecommunication in Montenegro
The principal service providers in the Montenegrin telecommunication market are T-Com Montenegro (formal Crnogorski Telekom), fixed line operator; ProMonte, the first GSM mobile service provider, T-Mobile Montenegro, the second GSM mobile service provider and M:Tel, the third GSM mobile service provider.
T-Com Montenegro, former Crnogorski Telekom, the fixed line operator
Crnogorski Telekom is the principal provider of telecommunication services in Montenegro. The company's service portfolio includes fixed line telephony, data transmission services, television broadcasting and various value-added products.
Crnogorski Telekom operates as a separate company from the end of 1998, until which it was a part of PTT Montenegro. The company was privatized in 2005. Its majority owner is Magyar Telekom (76.53%), the remaining shares are publicly traded.

AREA CODES
In accordance with the new numeration Plan of the Agency for Telecommunications and Postal services, telecom operators are obliged to adjust numeration for existing services in a period shorter than two years after the new country code of + 382 has started.
New long distance codes are in effect in Montenegro, from April 1. The new codes are:

Promonte, the first mobile operator in Montenegro
Promonte is the leading provider of mobile telecommunication services in Montenegro. It was the first mobile operator in Montenegro. Promonte has been a part of the Telenor family from the first day, and since August 2004 it has been 100% owned by Telenor.
Since the commercial launch of GSM in 1996, Promonte is positioned as an innovative and quality operator within all segments, focusing its products and services on simplicity of tariff structure and user-friendliness. Promonte, with licenses for GSM, 3G and WiMax technologies, offers mobile voice, roaming, value-added services and mobile data services over GPRS-EGDE-3G-HSDPA-WiMax-WiFi to its subscribers on both, prepaid and contract basis.
Monet, the second mobile operator in Montenegro
T-Mobile brand entered the Montenegrin market in 2006 through the acquisition of MoNet GSM mobile provider. T-Mobile Montenegro (T-Mobile Crna Gora) is fully owned by T-Crnogorski Telekom, which is itself owned by Magyar Telekom, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom.
MoNet GSM launched on 1 July 2000, as part of Telecom Montenegro. It became an independent incorporated limited liability company a month later. The company currently holds around 34 percent of the Montenegrin market and uses GSM 900, GPRS, and EDGE technologies. Since 2007 3G/UMTS services have been available in larger cities as well as on the coast
Mtel, the third mobile operator in Montenegro
On 9 May 2007, the company obtained a license to become the third mobile operator in Montenegro, along with a license for GSM and UMTS technologies. The company officially launched its business on 9 July 2007 using the 068 dialing prefix.
